Missions Ministry is a very active ministry in our local church. Our missions director, Mariea (Bill) Shean has allowed the Lord to lead her and our church down many different paths and through many different experiences. We are in involved in everything from filling the food pantry down the street and feeding those in our own neighborhood, to traveling to other countries such as Paraguay, South America to help out in any way that we feel led by God. You will notice several pages about some of the different locations both locally and abroad on this website. Also, we try to provide ongoing updates about the ongoing work in many of the mission fields.
You may notice that we have a main page on our site devoted to Paraguay. God is doing a great work in Paraguay through Missionary Dan Miller and his family, and several other families are now serving in Paraguay. We made our first trip to Paraguay back in 2000, and have been back many times, and therefore we have tried to give as much information as possible about what God is doing there. This doesn't mean that the other missions are not important. Please visit each of the pages to learn more about where we have been and what we are doing.
Missions Sunday
At our local church, every 2nd Sunday of the month is designated "Missions Sunday." Each month an offering is received, and we have a time set aside to talk about the missions our local church supports. Every few months, we will be posting updates via video on this portion of our website. Please click the play button below to hear our most recent missions Sunday, back on April 19th, 2009.
As indicated above, our
church is "mission-minded." We consider our mission field as both a
distant country and also a neighborhood street. Traditionally, the
women of our church spearhead our mission endeavors, and in recent
years both men and women have been very involved in our endeavors.
Through our missions offerings, monies received for missions support Paraguay, South America. The mission in Paraguay has continued to grow, and we support things like Youth Camps in Paraguay, as well as several children's homes in existence to support the many abandoned children in Paraguay. Our church has had several
short term missions teams to Paraguay, so many in fact we've lost count on how many teams have traveled there. Currently, we have a team traveling to Paraguay for 2 weeks in July-August of 2009.
We are also involved in supporting the following ministries with financial gifts: Voice of Salvation, Open Door Ministries, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, One-Child Fund, Gideons International, and Hands Across Carolina. As other needs arise, we respond to them via our Helping Hands Ministry through our International Offices.
